So yes the title of this blog post is about the amazing menstrual and self-care products at Nixit, but it’s also about the larger conversation about releasing pelvic stress, women’s* joy, and love of our bodies and all they do. *Note that while I tend to talk about women in particular (because that is my own lived experience as a cis-woman), folks of all genders menstruate.
Hey gorgeous,
I hope you are keeping well and having such a wonderful day so far! I’m so stoked to be writing to you and picking up on a conversation we have been having through other channels about how to release the stress and/or trauma (whether that’s little t or Big T) that we hold in our pelvic regions.
The Biology of the Pelvic Region
So I guess to start, I should probably share more about what I mean by our pelvic region. The area between our belly button and the base of our spine is such a highly populated part of our bodies (and the mind connection). From a physical and biological perspective, we’ve got our internal organs, we’ve got our pelvic bone, we’ve got our hips, we’ve got all of the sexual organs including our ovaries and uterus, and we also usually hold most of our lovely stored fat in this area… there is a lot happening. It’s like the New York or Dubai or Paris or Nairobi of who we are (the brain would probably be like Ottawa, Canada, or some other capital city in the world).
From an emotional standpoint, there are many important aspects of our pelvic region as well. Emotionally, I’m sure many of you can attest to the complicated (and hopefully increasingly positive) relationship we have with our bellies, abdominal muscles, hips, and vaginas. From our self-image to body image, to our romantic and sexual desires, to what we say to ourselves internally when we look in the mirror. It’s a lot, and everyone has their own unique story about it.
And then spiritually, this area gets quite a bit of attention globally. I won’t go into the ways that some folks (ahem) have decided that they get to decide what we can and cannot do based on religion. Instead, I’d like to share how the pelvic region is viewed in a positive way.
The Energetic Connection: Sacral & Root Chakras
In some South Asian spiritual traditions, the pelvic region has two key energy centers: the sacral chakra and the root chakra.
The Sacral Chakra (🧡)
The sacral chakra is an energy center (or swirling wheel) that is associated with creativity, passion, and emotional balance. It fosters joy, sensuality, and a deep connection to one's authentic self and relationships.
The sacral chakra is linked to abundance, flow, and our relationship with pleasure—including financial well-being. It encourages a healthy, creative approach to earning and managing money, fostering confidence in one's ability to attract prosperity.
From a fitness and movement perspective, the sacral chakra fuels motivation, passion, and enjoyment in movement. It helps you connect with the joy of exercise, making fitness feel like a creative and pleasurable experience rather than a chore. A balanced sacral chakra supports body confidence, emotional resilience, and the ability to stay inspired on your wellness journey.
The Root Chakra (🔴)
The root chakra, located at the base of the spine, is connected to stability, security, and grounding. When balanced, it fosters a deep sense of safety, resilience, and trust in life’s foundation.
In relation to money, the root chakra governs financial security, basic needs, and a sense of abundance. A strong, balanced root chakra helps cultivate financial stability, responsible money management, and confidence in one’s ability to meet material needs.
The root chakra provides the foundation for discipline, consistency, and physical endurance. It keeps you grounded in healthy habits, strengthens commitment to your fitness goals, and helps you feel safe and strong in your body. When balanced, it supports stamina, stability, and a deep sense of physical well-being.
Ways to Release Pelvic Stress
Releasing pelvic stress involves a combination of physical movement, breathwork, and emotional awareness. Trauma biology research highlights how stress and unresolved emotions can be stored in the pelvic region, often linked to the root and sacral chakras.
Physical Practices
Hip-opening stretches (e.g., deep squats, pigeon pose)
Somatic exercises that encourage gentle movement
Diaphragmatic breathing to release tension and restore a sense of safety
Mindful movement like Boxing (or any kind of martial arts), dance, or gentle shaking/jiggling to encourage nervous system regulation and energy flow
Emotional & Mental Practices
Therapy, journaling, or meditation to create a space for emotional processing
Affirmations and self-care rituals that reinforce self-love and body acceptance
Treating the Pelvic Region with Gentleness & Care
Overall, treating the pelvic region with gentleness and care is essential for both physical and emotional well-being. One way to support relaxation and comfort is by using high-quality, body-safe lubricants like Nixit's water-based lube, designed to enhance ease and reduce friction rather than adding stress to the body.
Whether during intimacy or self-care, choosing gentle, nourishing products helps reinforce a sense of safety, pleasure, and connection with your body—making healing a more embodied and enjoyable experience.
